Action Alert: Urge Congress to Pass the Dream Act

by Administrator

The Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, puts 800,000 Dreamers at risk of deportation. The DREAM Act of 2017 would rectify this decision. It is critical that Congress to stand up for these youth and take swift action to replace fear and uncertainty with permanent protection!
Dreamers are undocumented immigrant youth brought to the United States as young children, typically between the ages of two- and six-years. Since 2012, DACA has provided temporary protection, enabling them to live, work, and study without fear of deportation. DACA participants voluntarily shared their personal information with the federal government and passed background checks. Ending protections will inflict needless suffering, separate families, and cost our economy billions over the next decade.
The DREAM Act is a bipartisan bill that would grant permanent residence status and provide a path to citizenship for Dreamers who graduate from U.S. high schools and attend college, enter the workforce, or enlist in the military.
JCPA has long-standing policy and a history of active engagement in supporting new immigrants and developing our nation’s immigration policy, such as supporting a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers.
TAKE ACTION! Write to your members of Congress and urge them to pass a clean “DREAM Act” without harmful border security and enforcement provisions. Ask them to cosponsor the bill and support moving it swiftly to a vote.
