Numerous communities are reporting increased activity by ‘Hebrew-Christian’ congregations. These groups have adopted numerous mechanisms to pass themselves off as legitimate Jewish institutions, including securing listings in local yellow page directories. The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York has a Task Force on Missionaries and Cults that is an excellent resource for information, strategies and speakers on the issue of Hebrew Christians. The Task Force has prepared an action alert, a backgrounder, and a sample letter for CRCs to use to respond to the erroneous classification of Hebrew Christian congregations in yellow page directories. It is both attached and imbedded below. We encourage you to check you local directory and contact its publisher to ensure that they understand this complex issue appropriately.
