RE:
Iran 13

As reported earlier, the trial of the 13 Iranian Jews imprisoned on baseless allegations of spying for Israel and the United States has been rescheduled for May 1. Ten of the 13 remain imprisoned. We continue to call for bail for the ten so that they may spend Passover with their families. At the same time, efforts to ensure that the trial, when it resumes, is conducted in an open and fair manner should continue. These include vigils, letters, press statements, etc. Please refer to previous alerts for more information.

Additionally:

  • The UN’s Commission on Human Rights is currently meeting in Geneva. A resolution on Iran’s violation of human rights will be considered on Tuesday, April 18th. The United States, Canada and the European Union are all supporting the resolution. Letters of support for the resolution should be sent to representatives of these countries and to Latin American countries that have not yet taken a position on the measure, as well as to Mary Robinson, High Commissioner for Human Rights. Letters should be sent directly to the countries’ Geneva Missions (see addresses below).

As always, please contact the JCPA with any questions or for more information. We will of course forward any new information.
