SENT BY FAX December 27, 2000 Mr.
John Podesta Dear John, On behalf of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA), we ask you to convey to President Clinton our strong support for a decision to sign the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. We believe the proposed International Criminal Court represents an important step forward in securing basic human rights around the world. At long last the establishment of this tribunal would provide an effective mechanism for enforcing the Genocide Convention and, as such, it truly reflects the unfinished Nuremberg agenda. Correctly reflecting the moral values of the American people, President Clinton and his administration have been responsive to suffering in Africa and the former Yugoslavia, at times even utilizing military means to end ethnic cleansing and other barbaric crimes against humanity. The President now has an historic opportunity to place the United States firmly behind an effort to give those values a permanent institutional home. The JCPA, the national coordinating body for 13 national and 122 community-based Jewish public affairs organizations, expresses the hope that this opportunity will not be missed. Sincerely, signed Leonard
