During our country’s annual remembrance of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., there is an opportunity to reflect both on the successes of the civil rights movement and the unfinished work that lies before us. Restoring the integrity of the Voting Rights Act and criminal justice reform are two of the preeminent challenges of our time. The Jewish community, which has in the past worked hand in glove with African American leaders, must redouble its efforts to reengage in today’s civil rights struggle. As Dr. King said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” There is, indeed, injustice in our midst and we at JCPA, along with local Jewish community relations councils across the country, are committed to doing our part in bringing justice and carrying Dr. King’s legacy forward.
