It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joyce Garver Keller, z”l, former Ohio Jewish Communities executive director and one of JCPA’s 2016 Tikkun Olam awardees. She passed away Sunday night at her home while she slept. We join her family and the Jewish Community of Ohio in mourning her and expressing our deep sense of loss.
Joyce has been described by those who knew her as highly energetic, dedicated to the Jewish community, and a strong mentor who fostered those around her to strive for future friendships, relationships, and partnerships. Her work of over 25 years in the Jewish Communities of Ohio laid the foundations for the continuing strength of the Ohio Jewish Community.
“I was heartbroken to learn of Joyce’s passing this morning. Those of us who do Jewish advocacy for a living have always seen Joyce as the very best in our field, and she was a mentor to many. It’s hard to imagine such a life force will not be present in our lives anymore. But her memory and all that she stood for will continue,” said JCPA President David Bernstein today.
Joyce is survived by her husband Steven, their son Stuart and his wife Michelle, and three grandsons. May they and all of us be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. May Joyce’s memory be forever a blessing.
The funeral will be at Congregation Agudas Achim in Columbus (2767 Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43209) on Wednesday, May 4 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Cleveland (27855 Aurora Road, Solon, OH 44139) on Wednesday, May 4 at 2:30 p.m.
