JEWISH COUNCIL FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS

HONORS THEODORE R. MANN AT ANNUAL PLENUM

February 28 – Baltimore, MD --The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) will honor Theodore Mann, longtime Philadelphia attorney, at its annual plenum in Baltimore with the Albert Chernin Award. Mr. Mann, a longstanding activist in the Jewish community, was chosen to receive the Chernin Award for his exemplary voluntary service to the field of Jewish community relations and the leading role he has taken in defending the First Amendment and religious freedoms for all Americans.

"Ted deserves this recognition for his dedication to defending the principles of tikkun olam and social justice. He has been an exemplar of Jewish communal leadership for decades," said Arden Shenker, past chair of the JCPA. Mr. Shenker presented the award to Mr. Mann.

Mr. Mann is a partner in Mann, Ungar, Spector, & Labovitz. He served as chairman of the JCPA from 1976-1980, and chairman of the Conference of Major American Jewish Organizations. Mr. Mann has also served as national president of the American Jewish Congress, as the founding chairman of Project Nishma, and founding chair of Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger. Mr. Mann is currently chair of the executive committee of the Israel Policy Forum.

The Chernin Award is presented annually to a member of the Jewish community who reflects the core values of Judaism and its commitment to social justice, while also guarding the protection of the Bill of Rights, particularly the First Amendment. The award was established in June 1990, to honor Albert D. Chernin on his retirement as executive chairman of the JCPA.
