FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: JEWISH COUNCIL FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS February 24, 2000 -- New York -- Dr. Lawrence Rubin announced his retirement today after serving as the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) executive vice chairman for the past ten years. "I have had the pleasure of witnessing so many tremendous achievements in the agency and in the field of Jewish community relations," said Dr. Rubin, "but the time has now come for me to pursue other interests." "No one understands Jewish organizational life better than Larry and no one is a better analyst and practitioner of Jewish community relations," said JCPA Chair, Steven Schwarz, whose term as chair ends next Wednesday at the agency’s annual plenum in Baltimore. "He has provided leadership and vision to this organization, and to many of its affiliates across the country. It has been an honor to work with him, and I know that whatever Larry moves on to, he will be a success." Dr. Rubin has worked in Jewish communal relations for most of his professional career. In addition to his long service at the helm of the JCPA, Dr. Rubin served as the associate executive vice chairman of the organization. Prior to coming to the JCPA, he served as executive director of the Philadelphia JCRC and as Washington representative of the American Jewish Congress. A search committee will be formed to find a successor to Dr. Rubin, who will leave the organization at the end of the year. ### The Jewish Council for Public Affairs is the public affairs arm of the organized Jewish community and serves as the national coordinating and advisory body for the 13 national and 122 local agencies comprising the field of Jewish community relations
