FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: JEWISH COUNCIL FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS RELEASES June 21, 1999 -- New York - The organized Jewish community's leading public policy-making body released the blueprint for public affairs action for the 1999-2000 year. Published by the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the Agenda for Public Affairs, covers a wide range of topics that affect American Jews, from Middle East peace and Israeli security to civil rights and liberties and poverty and justice. "The Agenda is the collective product of the most democratic process in American Jewish life," said Steven Schwarz, Chair of the JCPA. "As an advisory organization, the JCPA represents 122 local and 13 national agencies, each adding their own voice to the Agenda-making process, thereby truly gauging the pulse of issues that affect the Jewish community at-large." Priority issues raised in the 1999-2000 Agenda include Israel-Diaspora Relations; Ethiopian Jewry; Human Rights; Race and Ethnicity, Religion in the Public Schools, and Interreligious Relations.
