JCPA Joins Call for Justice in Iran 10 Case

September 5, 2000 – New York, NY – The Jewish Council for Public Affairs joined with Jewish leaders and elected officials today at a press conference calling for the immediate release of the 10 Jewish men still held in Iranian custody. The press conference was coordinated by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and the New York Jewish Community Relations Council. Following is the prepared statement of JCPA Chair, Dr. Leonard A. Cole.

"Today it is once again our sad duty to stand here and remind the world that we will not be silent as our brothers languish in an Iranian prison. Ten innocent men remain imprisoned in Iran, jailed simply because they are Jews. After being convicted in a kangaroo court, an appeal is now underway. For nearly two years these innocent men have been imprisoned, often in solitary confinement and miserable conditions. They have suffered physically, emotionally and mentally. All the norms of international human rights and justice have been ignored. It is time for this farce to end. We call on the Iranian authorities to immediately release these men. Let them rejoin their families. Let them live again."
