JCPA Condemns Ruling in Iran 10 Case

Calls Appeals Court Decision Unacceptable

September 21, 2000 – New York, NY – The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) today condemned an Iranian appeals court ruling in the case of the "Iran 10." Calling the ruling totally unacceptable, JCPA Chair Dr. Leonard Cole reiterated his call for the immediate release of these innocent prisoners.

The full text of his statement follows:

As we near the beginning of a new Jewish year, ten innocent men remain imprisoned in Iran simply because they are Jews. Today’s appeals court ruling, while allowing some of the sentences to be served concurrently, does not return these men to their families. We join in their families’ disappointment and are outraged at the Jews’ continued imprisonment.

Today’s ruling is simply another violation of internationally accepted norms of justice and humanity. No evidence was ever produced to support the government’s charges. We shall not rest or be silent until all these innocent men are released.
