JEWISH C0UNCIL FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS CHAIR TO MEET WITH PRESIDENT CLINTON TODAY

New York - August 12, 1999 - The chair of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, Steven Schwarz, is scheduled to meet with President Clinton later this afternoon. The meeting, which will convene prominent Jewish leaders from around the nation, is part of the President's ongoing efforts to establish stronger relationships with America's diverse ethnic groups.

Members of the delegation are expected to discuss issues of primary concern to the organized American Jewish community. Issues most likely to be discussed include the Middle East peace process, the recent shootings at the North Valley Jewish Community Center in California, gun control and hate crimes legislation.

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs is the public affairs body of the organized Jewish community and serves as the national coordinating and advisory body for the 13 national and 122 community agencies which comprise the field of Jewish community relations.
